New BSU T-Shirts

September 24th, 2009

Our t-shirts for the 2009-2010 school year are in!  We’ve made a slight change to our white t-shirts and will still be selling them at the BSU for the bargain price of just $5.  Our colored shirt this year is just a little bit crazy, but we figured you were up for it.  This year’s offering is officially Tangerine!  I bet you don’t have many shirts that color in your wardrobe - I know I don’t.  To get your very own tangerine shirt will only cost $10.  I forgot to take a picture of the back of the shirt, but it has John 6:40 on it: Jesus said, “For my Father’s will is that everyone who looks to the Son and believes in him shall have eternal life, and I will raise him up at the last day.”

Dollar Dinner!

September 5th, 2009

What’s the best part of Mondays?  Finally putting that grueling weekend behind you?  The joy of having spent a day in class again?  Knowing that you still have four more exciting days of class to come?  While those all sound incredible, we all know what makes Mondays great: Dollar Dinner at the BSU!  That’s every Monday of the semester at 6:15pm.

If you’re anything like me, you enjoy watching those two guys who do the Sonic commercials (although to be honest, when they switch it up and add different people instead, I find it to be very disappointing…), and now you can catch our announcement guys doing their own Sonic commercial:

Snack Attack!

June 10th, 2009

Snack Machine     The BSU has always been a great place to hang out, whether you want to kick back and watch some tv or a movie, play the Wii on the big screen, take on a friend in pool or ping pong, enjoy the free WiFi or just do some old fashioned studying.  Ok ok, maybe I got a little carried away there at the end…

It’s already the best place to get a drink with all of our pop selections being just 25 cents, but now you can get the cheapest snacks in town too!  The top three rows (mainly chips and their various friends) are only 40 cents, while the candy rounding out the bottom two rows is just 50 cents.  If you don’t see your favorite item in the machine, let us know and we’ll see if we can’t get it stocked the next time around!  (The pop and snack machines can both be found in the kitchen of the BSU.)

Summer Bible Study

June 10th, 2009

Every Monday night during the summer we’ll meet at the BSU at 9pm for our study through 1 John.  Some weeks we’ll meet earlier for some sort of fun group activity.  To get the latest updates of what’s going on, check out our summer BSU Facebook group.

Saturday Night Futsal!

January 28th, 2009

After watching my ten-year-old play the exciting game of Futsal, I realized this would be a blast for all of us to play as well.  So beginning January 31, we’ll be playing Futsal on Saturdays at the Horace Mann gym from 6 to 9pm.

Futsal is a modified form of indoor soccer that is played on a basketball court.  The rules we play by will be pretty simple and will only take a few moments to learn.  Even though the official version involves a goalie, we will be playing without one - you score more points that way!

Everyone is invited to play, regardless of what kind of soccer skills you possess.  And if you really don’t want to play, you’re still welcome to come and enjoy the show!  If you need more info, please talk to Jason.

Super Football Party

January 28th, 2009

Like most other Americans, we will be interested in watching a little football on Sunday, February 1.  What that particular game may be, I cannot say.  However, I do know it will involve the Steelers and Cardinals and someone is going to win a shiny silver trophy.

It’s the biggest TV event of the year and we’d love for you to come watch it with us!  Some love the game, others enjoy the commercials, while plenty more simply like the company.  Regardless of which group you fall into, we’re going to do our best to make the game fun for everyone.

This year we’re going to incorporate a very simplified version of Fantasy Football into our game-watching experience.  Participants will randomly choose one player from the Steelers and the Cardinals and then root for that player throughout the evening.  Each player will give you a chance to win various prizes, including the grand prize home DVD entertainment system.

We plan to do this pot-luck style, so we invite you to bring along some sort of snack to share with others.  There is a signup sheet at the BSU if you’re interested.  (It’s not required to bring something to attend!!)

For those that are less familiar with American football, we’ll be explaining some of the basics of the game at 4pm.

Spring Forward

January 12th, 2009

It’s time once again to start a new semester, which always hits me with the reality that I need to update the website!  This spring will include the usual BSU schedule - Dollar Dinner on Mondays at 6:15 followed by a group activity at 7, RealLife worship gathering at 7pm on Thursdays, Life Groups meeting at various times and places throughout the week as well as our Saturday Night Coffee House.

Outside of that, the main focus this January will be our spring retreat with the BSU’s from MoWest, UMKC and Trenton.  The topic will be on sharing the Gospel, with the intention that participants will walk away with a practical, prepared plan on how they’ll be intentional about sharing their faith this semester.  That will take place the weekend of January 23rd at God’s Mountain campground, which is just outside of St. Joe.

Moving into spring break, students will have the opportunity to partner with the MBC to take a mission trip to El Salvador.  Another in-state trip is being planned as well, but some important details are still in the works.  Interested students will also have the opportunity to minister in Central Asia this May.

Hopefully the BSU website will be one place you can find out what’s going on!  Another way to keep up to date is the Facebook group “Northwest BSU.”  If you need any other information, please email Jason at bsu@nwmissouri.edu.
